Crazy Stars
I am definitely blog challenged. Lately every time I upload a picture when I'm doing a new post, instead of the jpg I get funny talk. It mostly turns out OK when I tell it to publish but I do get some of the funny talk posted.
OK a new contest. Years and years ago - back when the dinosaurs roamed - I made Snowbound. While I was making it I needed a rectangular shape to get things to fit. Surprise, surprise - a star came to mind. And of course, with me doing it, it couldn't be straight and neat and tidy, it had to be lopsided. As far as I know, that was the origin of the crazy star. Years later, it was really funny to open a magazine and read articles on how to draft a "crazy star". Anyway, the contest is this. What year was Snowbound published and what company published it. If you have an old book you're in luck. I assume I'll have multiple right answers - a lot of us save those old books - and Zoie is in Atlanta, GA for the summer with her dad. So I'll have Tara.org draw from the right answers to see who wins the Blessings Jelly Roll. Deadline for guesses is Wednesday, 15th. Good luck all of you collectors.
In 1989 Red Wagon published Snowbound. Please count me in. Arlyce
ReplyDeleteJust realized that people can look for the answer right here, lol.
ReplyDeleteI do have that book though and use it a lot of motifs. I am making an all wool quilt with a lot of your designs in it.
And yes, it was published in 1989 by Red Wagon.

It's a book I wish I had! Red Wagon 1989.
ReplyDeleteI still have my copy. In fact I have most of the early Red Wagon books including Snowbound, published a Red Wagon book from 1989. It was the beginning of a new perspective on quilting for me. Thanks for the many years of inspirations.
ReplyDeleteRed Wagon published Snowbound in 1989.
ReplyDeleteNow that I've searched the internet rather than just reading the comments...It was published in 1989 by Red Wagon. I also read where a lady bought it from Land's End (that's right, Land's End!) in 1992! Would love the Jelly Roll!
ReplyDeleteRed Wagon 1989 written with Gerry Kimmel and Linda Brannock.
ReplyDeleteI have Snowbound and several others of yours of that era. They are some of my favorites! So. Red Wagon was the pub and the year 1989...BC (Before Children, LOL!..back when I had more time to quilt.) I have enjoyed my visit tonight and will come back, Soon! Thanks for all your wonderful designs! Cathy vonJess in MA
ReplyDeleteLike I said in the last post its a quilt i have wanted tomake for a long time
ReplyDeleteI bought the book before I even knew how to applique! IT was all about the memories that came to me of my childhood. I had to have to this book so I could make this quilt someday.
Funny now how books are about the photography
this book has no pictures , color or black and white of the quilts
the quilts are all on the front cover and NO you don't see all of them as a flat shot of the quilt!
they have line drawings in the book.
GREAT book as all the red wagon books are
so many wonderful motifs to use ....

ReplyDeleteI have all of your books EXCEPT this one!! BUT, Amazon.com has the answers to your question.
ReplyDelete1989 Red Wagon....
Count me in...
That was from the time I was "afraid" of applique. Red Wagon 1989...how silly that fear seems now!
ReplyDeleteOkay, it looks like I'm just copying but it was published in 1989 by Red Wagon. I was totally afraid of applique then too.
ReplyDeleteA Classic! Published in 1989 by Red Wagon. A coveted favorite! Wish I could do all your quilts!

ReplyDelete1989/Red Wagon/ with Gerry Kimmel and Linda Brannock. You are the queen of the off kilter stars and I know the draw your own stars article you mentioned and use it often. Loved your early books the best and also From the Prairie was the best fabric line EVER EVER EVER! We need that line made up again for all your newbie fans to use and love.
ReplyDeleteMy dog-eared copy says Snowbound was published in 1989 by Red Wagon. Oh to be snowbound rather than sweltering in the hot, hot south central Texas sun!
ReplyDeleteI think the popular answer is 1989/Red Wagon. I think I'll go dig through my books, because I bet I have it!
ReplyDeleteAh to be snowbound during this hot summer spell! I have a snowman block made from the Snowbound book using an old Marcus Brothers blue print with trees on the background. I really need to get going on that again! Snowbound was published in 1989 by Red Wagon and is one of my favorite books. Thanks for the entry.
ReplyDeletePublished in 1989 by Red Wagon. I have almost all the Red Wagon books - love them. Maybe that's what I'll do this afternoon - look thru some more of them! Thanks for the contest.

I have this book, and I'll never let go of it! Such a classic! Red Wagon, 1989.
ReplyDeleteAnd the answer is: Red Wagon 1989. I have this book-love it-and do hope your fabric works out to kit it.
ReplyDelete1989 by Red Wagon...love it!
ReplyDeleteI took out my copy last night to be inspired. I still want to make that quilt, and I think that when I read Snowbound, I first understood how to make a quilt my own instead of just copying the pattern precisely. I think that I have all of your books, but it is always comforting to look back at this one. 1989. Red Wagon.
ReplyDelete1989 by Red Wagon. This was one of teh first quilts I appliqued. I made the 12 block quilt and put my 2 boys on the sled. Carl was in camo fabric and Mark in a tie dye type look. And it's true today...Carl loves hunting and fishing and Mark is more a umm...free spirit! I have had so many compliments on the quilt. And I even made the soup!!!!! That quilt was a 'waiting list' class for the LQS. One of the first of it's kind and EVERYONE wanted to learn how to make it! I think There were 6 classes of 12 until everyone got to do it. I was lucky enough to have mine done in time for Christmas. WOW...such great memories!!!! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOh...forgot to tell you another part...I used a fabric that looked to me like the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) ...the colors were so beautiful in the print. I bought 2 1/2 yards and still have all but the piece I cut for the background of one of the blocks. It was too pretty to cut up!!!!! I lovingly look at it, and refold it. SOMEDAY I will use it....maybe!
ReplyDeleteRed wagon in 1989. I have some fabric to go with the book but don't have the book. Not easy to find.Joyce
ReplyDelete1989 Red Wagon, that was a very good year. What were you doing then? remember?
ReplyDeletePublished in 1989 by Red Wagon. In answer to Robin C., I missed out on buying this book because that was the year my daughter was born with multiple challenges. All things fun and quilty were put aside to care for her needs....for a while....20 years has gone by so fast!
ReplyDeleteIt was published in 1989
ReplyDeleteLorraine Hofmann
Oh! And it was published by Red Wagon. :O)
ReplyDeleteLorraine Hofmann...again
I have a copy of Snowbound and some fabrics to make it. It was published in 1989 by Red Wagon. It's obviously a 'classic' with timeless appeal. I'll look forward to more fabric and then I will make it! Carol
ReplyDeleteHey - Wednesday is tomorrow and I almost hate to end this. The memories from this contest and the last are so awesome. Since all of the answers are right, I'll have Tara draw one (or any others that come before tomorrow afternoon) tomorrow. Good luck to all. Jan
ReplyDeleteHello Jan: Book published in 1989 by Red Wagon. Still have the book! I started quilting in 1992, and was inspired so much by the "Winter Quilt", which was hanging in a shop in Fairborn, OH - The Daisy Barrel (no longer there). It was a classic favorite then and it's still a favorite! It's design really captures the feeling of winter fun! Thanks so much for your wonderful designs and love the wonderful stories behind them!!
ReplyDeleteIt was published in 1989 by Red Wagon. I have the book but never finished the quilt. Am happy to see you are bringing it back again.
ReplyDeleteCarol
Red Wagon 1989. I bought this book when it came out, but it took me 15 years to get around to making it! I put it on my bed the day after Thanksgiving and it stays there until the end of December. Here are some photos of it as WIP.

Of course, I made it personal by having four boys representing my sons, hearts with our names on it, and so on. What fun!
