Day 3 - My day on the Pillow Talk Blog Hop - February 3rd

Welcome to Day 3 of the Moda Pillow Talk Blog Hop.
Wasn't my friend Alma's pillow awesome? To say nothing of Barb's Basket quilt. I just love their Antique Fair fabric line.
Since Linda and I had 2 fabric lines (Classic Wovens and Lilac Hill) come out around Fall Market, I decided to do 2 pillows. Actually, I took flat pillows to the schoolhouse - I did get the tops done in time but they weren't pillows yet. The pillows were supposed to be about who we are - a way Lissa conjured up to get us to talk about ourselves - pretty clever and a lot easier on us too.
I am, and always have been, about home and family. I live in the country in a house on top of a hill, have a patient, loving husband of 41 years, 3 grown children, 9 grandchildren to keep me happy in my old age, 2 dogs and numerous cats. And chickens, we can't forget the chickens. I have always thought that quilting is women's art form - a practical art form that keeps our homes and the people we love warm.
Therefore, both pillows had to have houses.

This first pillow is Crabapple Farm, made out of our Lilac Hill fabric line. The pattern will be featured in the April issue of Primitive Quilting and Projects magazine. I'm sure the picture will be much better there - it's kind of glarey here. Since I can't give you the pattern, I'm substituting a Layer Cake of Lilac Hill. Make a comment, any old comment, and add Lilac Hill and we'll put you in the drawing for the Layer Cake. And be sure to watch the blog when the Lilac Hill precuts ship (no-I don't know when, wish I did) for a free pattern and giveaway on Lilac Hill Petit Fours.
We'll also have a Free pattern in a kit for a little quilt using the Petit Fours, a Charm Bundle and a Layer Cake.

Coming Soon to your Nearest Blog - this one :)!

The second pillow is made out of our Classics Wovens line.
Homespuns have always been a favorite of both Linda and I. We love the texture and how they absorb the light - somewhat like wool.

Click on the Download Now to download the pattern for the pillow. (And if you can't get it to download - some people are having problems - please come back later) My son's friend set up the download system. She works nights. As soon as she wakes up, she'll fix it so us nonleftbrain people can work it.) If you leave a comment, any old comment, and add Classic Wovens, we'll put you in the drawing for a pillow kit. If you put both Lilac Hill and Classic Wovens, you'll be in both drawings. Put the one you would prefer first. We'll draw a name Monday for both. We will have a few pillow kits for sale after Monday too ($19.95) if you don't win and want a kit.
In the past I haven't sold yardage of fabrics, just kits, but I have decided to carry the Classic Wovens. They really are our favorites. They're due in any day now so watch for them in our store.

Now for a couple of the questions.
What is a little known fact about yourself? This really is my hair color - the dark I mean. For some reason, I have very little grey in my hair at this stage. When I started getting a little grey, I had red streaks put in for camoflauge - so you wouldn't notice the grey. My sister Nancy, who is 5 years younger than me, has beautiful silver hair and has for years. I think she stole all my silver.
Do you sleep in a nightgown or pj's? I sleep in a bed - with pillows, sheets, a wool blanket and 2 quilts. If you get my meaning.
What do you do to relax? I applique and listen to music. The repetitive movement of the sewing is very relaxing.
Early to bed or all-nighter? Early - really early, around 8:30 or 9. But I wake up at 5:00.
How many nights have you or your spouse slept on the couch?

OK - now we have a pretty big bedroom. In the corner by my side of the bed is Bully's kennel. That's where he sleeps. He is obviously a bulldog. They snore. He does.

Then beside me is my DH, Pep, who has sleep anpnea (he has a machine now but before he got it - he snored.) Here he is with Quinn.

In the corner by Pep's side of the bed was Fuggles kennel. Fuggles was Pep's mastiff. Mastiffs snore.

So - here I am sleeping in my bed in the middle of the night.
Bully is snoring.
Pep is snoring.
Fuggles is snoring.
I - fully awake by now, pick up my pillow and my quilts and go to the living room couch where it is blessedly quiet. :)
Be sure to go visit Ann at Bunny Hill tomorrow. Her talk at Market had us all laughing.

  1. Lilac Hill...lovely! It sounds wonderful right about now as I look out on all the snow! Love both your pillows, particularly Crabapple Farm. I'm awfully tempted by the Classic Wovens as well, but think Lilac Hill is my favorite. Will be watching for the precuts when they ship. Thank you so much for sharing with us - totally sympathize with the snoring cacophony!!

  2. Both fabric lines are lovely, but Crabapple Farm is my favorite of the pillows, so 1. Lillac Hill and 2. Classic Wovens. Thanks for the chance! Greetings from Seoul.

  9. I feel your pain, or should I say I hear your pain! My DH and dog are snorers and when I go to the couch, my dog has to join me. Can't get away from it. Can't wait to see the Lilac Hill line. It is lovely. Thanks for the giveaway.

  10. Love the Lilac Hill...your pillow is beautiful. Also the Classic Wovens. I have always been a fan of brighter colors in fabrics, but just seeing some of your work with the antique and darker fabrics makes me wonder what I've been missing! I especially like the Summer Nights quilt.

  13. THe snoring partners story is too much! But so appropriate with a pillow talk. Both lines of fabric are to die for - love the color and textures. Classic Wovens would have to take priority over Lilac Hill - just because they feel a little more 'homey' to me.

  14. Cute pillows! I love your primitive designs. Regarding fabric choices, Lilac Hill is lovely, but homespuns are my favorite so Classic Wovens are first choice.

  22. Hi Jan! I am so happy that the Moda Pillow Talk was thought up and initiated because I found you. And your shop! ;-) And I saw a post with photos of hens further down. Craft and birds, it doesn't get much better in my world. I love both pillows, but I would have to say that Lilac Hill would sit very prettily on my living room couch. The Classic Wovens look adorable as well and it is time I started appliquéing anyway...

  82. Lilac Hill reminds me of the huge lilac bush that my grandmas had her yard. It was so pretty - it was some hybrid with the habit of a bush, not tree-like, like the old lilacs - it had beautiful blooms. The first bushes I bought for our house were 2 dwarf lilacs - oh the scent.

I like your Classic Wovens pillow as well and will come back later to get the pattern - thank you!

  130. Lilac Hill - I'd love to live in a place called Lilac Hill down at the bottom of Chickadee Lane.
It's been lovely to 'meet' you. Thanks.

  131. I love your home pillows! Super cute! I like houses too ;) your Lilac Hill fabric is beautiful! So is the Classic Wovens, I can see why you would stock yardages of that!

  132. The house pillows are so charming! Lilac Hill or Classic Wovens, love them both. Thanks for the pattern and chance to win.

  133. Love both of the pillows and especially 'cause they have houses! Lilac Hill fabric is lovely and so the Classic Wovens. Any girl would be happy with either! Thanks.

  134. I love both pillows, but the Lilac Hill one is my favorite. There's just something so cozy about houses on quilts and pillows!

  135. Love both the pillows, lilac hill and wovens.

  136. I love your pillow designs, but then I love all your designs. I've been anxiously awaiting your Classic Wovens since I first saw them on the Moda site. Love, love, love any homespuns and Moda does them so well. Classic Wovens, Lilac Hill.
Thank you for sharing the pattern.

  138. Love both pillows as the Lilac Hill and Classic Wovens make beautiful pillows and can't wait to download your pattern. Thanks for the chance to win!

  139. Love the pillows! And the snoring dogs, too - our dogs don't snore, but the husband and cats do!

I'm thrilled to be able to buy the Classic Wovens yardage. And can't wait for Lilac Hill ...

Classic Wovens and Lilac Hill (in case you missed it).

  142. LOVE and appreciate your snoring situation! I have a hubby that uses a CPAP and without it, there's no sleep for anyone in a half mile radius!
Love your Lilac Hill and Classic Wovens lines - Thanks for the chance to win some GREAT stuff!\

  143. I am glad I have a chance to let you know how much I have admired your designs. Have done many pieces from them. Pep reminds me of my own DH in uniform, same type. Over 36 years then retired. Just the word "lilac" brings me memories of my gramma.

  144. Love the Lilac Hill line and your pillow. Thanks for the fun post.

  145. Lilac Hill - pretty name for beautiful fabric. Your snoring trials have me thinking I shouldn't complain so much about just ONE snoring being in my bedroom.

    ReplyDelete
  146. So hard to choose, but I think I like the Lilac Hill better than the Classic Wovens. Thanks for the great pattern & taking part in this. I won't complain about my husband snoring again, since it could be dogs, too. Just think, as long as you hear them snoring you know they are still alive.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Thanks for sharing! The Lilac Hill line is beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  148. I love the fabric - Lilac Hill and your Classic Wovens are just as wonderful. I'd love to have pillows like that in my living room or bedroom.

    ReplyDelete
  149. LOL at your snoring dogs. I can relate. My girl snores horribly but she's not a bulldog or a mastiff. She's a Jack Russell mix, but she snores loud enough to rival any bulldog, I think;-P
I just love Lilac Hill, and your pups are so cute!

  150. What lovely designs!

I like Lilac Hill and Classic Wovens both!

  151. Pillows are such great projects because they are done so quickly. I'd love to make one out of Lilac Hill. I often resort to the couch to get some peace and quiet also. Happy sleeping, Kathie L in Allentown

  152. Thanks for the chance to win the Lilac Hill and Classive Wovens drawings. Wovens are a favorite of mine and I'm glad you are going to carry them in your shop since they're hard to find in my area.

  155. I need to make some pillows for my couch, but it is leather, so I want something that is durable and works with prim, so still thinking. I have that problem too, my husband snores like a banshee and my dog does too, lol.

  159. Love the Lilac Hill prints--need at least a peek at spring right now! Our dogs snore too, the cat wheezes. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  160. I'm eagerly awaiting Lilac Hill for many reasons, not the least is that I'm from NH and lilacs are our state flower (and my favorite)-so the name appeals to me. I love the peeks I've seen of it and now that Anne Sutton is using it in her new free BOM, I can't wait for it to come out! I'm also looking forward to the Classic Wovens because I'm slowing getting drawn into primitive type quilts and I really need them! LOL I love the pillow-I'm a huge "house" fan. I think this would also make a sweet wallhanging! Thank you so much for sharing this pattern with us.

  161. Classic Wovens and Lilac Hill - both are beautiful lines. I love the wovens the best, too. I've already planned a homespun-only quilt! I love your house designs and have several around my home.

    ReplyDelete
  162. The snoring would drive me crazy too. Love your fabric and patterns.

    ReplyDelete
  163. I so love your patterns, and love anything with houses! Classic Wovens is my favorite, but I also love Lilac Hill. Don't think I could handle all the snoring going on at your house...lol. Husband is bad enough, but two dogs also? Bless you.

    ReplyDelete
  164. I sleep through anything... but I am afraid that even I would have a hard time at your house... the couch sounds perfect!LOL
Lilac Hill and Classic Wovens both are great pillows! Thanks for sharing the pattern!!!

  165. Oh, I love both fabric lines, it is hard to choose. Put me in for 1. Lilac Hill and 2. Classic Wovens. I love the pillow pattern, anything with houses on it catches my eye. And I use to have a beautiful mastiff, his name was Max. Loved your pictures!

  166. So cute -- I saw Lilac Hill in the recent issue of Quilt magazine but I think I like the Classic Wovens as I have a lot of my mother's antiques in my home and pillows in that line would blend right in. Thanks for the giveaway. I'll have to order a pillow kit if I'm not a lucky one this time.

  167. love lilac hill and classic wovens!

    ReplyDelete
  170. Oh gosh, choosing which to put first?? How can I make that decision.. erm..... Classic Wovens then Lilac Hill.
[Too difficult to choose, I went with alphabetical order ;)]

  174. What a great looking pillow. Thank you for the pattern. I was very fortunate last year in finding an estate sale from a woman who used to have her own quilting classroom selling all things quilty including fabrics. In the sale I picked up many, many yards of homespun fabrics for next to nothing. This pillow might be the place to use some of that fabric on.

Love the story about ending up on the couch. LOL I am amazed how LOUD dogs can snore.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Thanks so much for the chance to win some Lilac Hill! The pillow looks great!

    ReplyDelete
  176. Love both fabrics, but Lilac Hill is #1 and Homespun Wovens would be #2. Thanks for the chance to have either one!

  180. Oh my! I must have some of that Lilac Hill and maybe some Classic Wovens too! I definitely need to make some pillows.
Having shared a bedroom with four boxers over the years, I know snoring - they even used to offend the cats who bunked in with various of them, who would stalk off looking for quieter spots.
Cheers - will be watching for more yummy giveaways.
    Thanks
    Janet

  184. Hi Jan~ I love the pillows. Beautiful. It is hard to decide which one I like best. I can't wait for the lilac hill fabric to hit the stores so I can start the BunnyHill Henrietta block of the month. I am also in love with your homespuns though and the pillow made from the homespuns would go great with the Bible BOM I just got in the mail.

  185. I wasn't able to download the pattern -- hopefully it will work when I try again. Please add me to the contest.

  186. I love Lilac Hill! My lilac story: When we first moved here I planted some special-order hybrid lilacs that were guaranteed not to get "leggy." Sure if my husband didn't mow over those babies so many times "accidentally" he cut off the grafted part and now they are just a wild growing beautiful hedge. The Classic Wovens would make a great quilt for him, I still love him even if he did mow over my lilacs!

    ReplyDelete
  187. Cute, home-y pillow. I could no way, no how sleep in a room with all that snoring! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  188. Lilac Hill what a great name - guess that is because I am a real fan of lilacs and can't wait for spring to arrive so that they will start to bloom and have the nicest fragrance. Love your pillows. Karen

  196. Love both pillows-- especially the homespun one! Homespuns are SO cozy and warm-- just love them! I enjoyed reading your answers and can really relate to the "sleeping on the couch" thing, as I have a snoring DH too! Sleeping on the couch is not such a bad thing-- actually it's pretty comfortable, isn't it?!;-)
Please enter me in the drawings for both the Lilac Hill and Classic Wovens--- and if I'm lucky enough to win (fingers crossed!), I'd really love to have the Lilac Hill fabric!
