Size Matters - Day 3 - Sandy Gervais, Pat Sloan and Me!

This time I got an easy one - thanks Lissa.
We're supposed to talk about why size matters and .....
the size of your heart always matters.
Nuff said.  :)

These are 6" (finished) hearts and 6" (finished) squares making up a 9-patch heart block.

To download the instructions to make your own block click here and here.

 Heart 9-Patch Pillow

I was torn between making the block into a small wallhanging or a pillow.  Obviously, I chose the pillow.  I love to change the quilts and pillows on my couch.  Hearts don't just need to be around on Valentine's Day - they're important all year.  To download the instructions to make the pillow, click here.
If you'd like a kit to make the pillow we have a few in the store.  Just click here.

The little quilt on special today is "The Witch is In".  It's getting close to Halloween so it's pretty appropriate but as I've always said, "This isn't a Halloween quilt, it's a statement quilt."  :)
I do occasionally feel (and maybe act) like one - but not very often, I hope.  It's a really good quilt to hang on the door on one of those days.  :)

It's also one of the quilts I used in my new tutorial on how to applique circles, all sizes of circles - big ones like the moon and small ones like her eyes.  If you'd like to learn more about appliqueing circles or just want to watch the tutorial for the heck of it, click here.  If you like the tutorials, please do subscribe.

And speaking of tutorials, we will also have a tutorial Friday - the lucky 13th  - on tips for appliqueing the center block from our Crossroads quilt "Eagles and Roses".  Be sure and come back because we'll also  have an awesome Give-Away that goes with it.

And if you're going to be anywhere close to Cameron tomorrow  (the 7th), I'll be showing all of my Crossroad quilts at Crossroads Quilt Shop in Cameron around 9:30.  Please come, I'd love to meet you.

Ok - now for the important part - giving things away today..

We've got a Layer Cake, Charm Bundle, Mini Charm and Dessert Roll  - Crossroads precuts.
Make a comment, any comment - maybe about things that have to do with the size of someone's heart.
But if you don't have a thought about that, just make a comment.
We'll have a drawing and announce the winner of the precuts on the 16th.

For right now we have to go see what Sandy and Pat are up too.  I can't wait.

  68. Size matters in football. If the other team is huge the little guys might get creamed.

In my opinion it's the same in quiliting, when a fabric pattern is huge, the little dainty (my fav's) seem to get creamed.

    Have a great day ladies!

    ReplyDelete
  144. I too, have learned that quilters have big hearts. Got a wonderful care package recently after a quilter learned about my husband being out of work and his surgery to remove cancer of the kidney. It touched my heart to realize that people care, even if they don't know you...wow! She had recently dealt with the same cancer in her hubby, so knew first-hand where I was coming from.
I like your pillow and block. Those fabrics are lovely and whomever wins them is going to be so happy.

    ReplyDelete
  145. When someone talks about the size of one's heart I always thing of the Grinch ;o) How he was able to have his heart grow because of the love of others. I have know a few Grinch's...not wanting to talk to others, always thinking of themselves. The can change with random acts of kindness that they don't expect!

    ReplyDelete
  146. The online quilting community is so generous and big-hearted. On almost a daily basis I see quilters sharing tips and patterns, donating quilts and other sewn objects and generally helping others. It is inspiring!

    ReplyDelete
  147. I thought about The Grinch, too, and how his heart grew when he learned to love others. Your pillow is cute, thank you for the instructions.

    ReplyDelete
  148. I think the size of one's heart is what matters the most too. People like yourself, opening up their lives and loves to strangers in an attempt to close the gap that tends to separate us all. With you sharing your talents and creativity, it means so much in that it inspires people like myself to want to do better and to just do! I really appreciate the opportunity to see your talents and creativity in motion and I look forward to reading your blog in the future - thank you so much! Happy Quilting!

  149. I think the Crossroads collection is just beautiful--my colors! Would love to win it!

    ReplyDelete
  150. The Crossroads fabric is stunning and would make a beautiful quilt!

    ReplyDelete
  151. The size of your heart is the most important, but, one thing in which the size does matter is when you have hit two or three or more quilt stores looking for more of a certain fabric to finish your quilt, you finally find it, and it is a few inches short of what you need, and this is the last store in your 50 mile area that has it. You could order more online, but you only need a few more inches and they want to charge you $10 shipping on a half yard or less of fabric! Arrrh!

    ReplyDelete
  152. My mom has the biggest heart I know and unfortunately at this time it's not been working so well. But heart does matter.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I think quilters all have very big hearts. Most are very willing to share information and tips, and have great give aways :) thanks for the chance.

I love Crossroads. About size of heart...so deceptive...you can have this huge burley, tough-skinned guy who looks a little intimidating with a heart of gold and as big as NYC. Or you have this tiny 6-yr old boy, a 6-yr old heart that raises thousands of dollars for children cancer patients. How is that possible? I try to not judge someone's outer façade but to give them the benefit of the doubt. For they may have a generous heart that will be called upon someday. Love, Mary ldylatuna@att.net

  157. I think quilters are very generous people by nature so we must be big hearted.

  158. I am always amazed at the size of the hearts of quilters and bloggers - they are so quick to spread the word and participate in block/quilts when there has been a need due to disaster or illness or special needs.

  159. Quilters are amazingly generous people. Every time there's a disaster or other need, large or small, i see a call go out for quilts. Maybe a person can only give a small quilt, but it can help in a BIG way. I think if every person focused on helping out in some small way, we could change the world in a BIG way.
