Happy Blockheads 4 Wednesday-#6

Spinning into Spring

by Linzee McCray

Speaking of Spring, the farm is bursting with life.
The baby bok choy and lettuce on the deck
are coming along nicely.

And the tulips in the garden are showing off.

Out front two does come down

each morning to munch at the bird feeder.

The baby banty chickens have hatched

and gotten big enough to come
outside with their parents

In the garden proper my fancy
Lillies are joining the iris.

Grandson Cullen still has to

wear his boot for this broken leg

most of the time but still was able to

help rake the garden paths - taking

off his awesome letter jacket, of course.

I've been working on some blocks

from this year's Mystery Quilt - Garden Party.

One of the blocks has a tree with blossoms

so I thought I'd do a little tutorial on sewing

rows of circles "or blossoms"

First cut the circles out of paper and iron
them to the back of your fabric.
Then cut the fabric out around 1/4" to 3/8"
all the way around the paper.
Now do a running stitch around the
edge of the fabric and pull it tight.

Then dot the edges of the fabric with fabric glue.

Glue the blossoms to the background.

Start stitching at the bottom edge of the lower

blossom in a row and stitch around one side, go under the

background to the next blossom and stitch up the side of

that blossom.  When you get to the top blossom in that

row,  stitch around the blossom and go under the background

to the next blossom down.  This way you can stitch the

entire row of blossoms without stopping and tying off.

It makes sewing berries or blossoms much easier.

If you belong to the Wallhanging Club, your
kit should be shipping this week.

If you want to join this club (you get your
kits -4 a year for 15%off and before they go
into the store) email Tammy at
janpatekquiltsinc@gmail.com for more information.

And in the spirit of Spring,  Jeff hung

"Birds & Bunnies Herbs and Honeys"
on the wall in the foyer.

We put the BOM pattern on sale this
week for 20% off.
You can go to the store to get your copy
by clicking here

Now lets take a minute and go see what the

Happy Blockheads 4, Block #5

Greek Cross
by Barbara Groves of
Me and My Sister.

My little garden on the deck is starting to grow.
If you look closely you can see the rows of baby bok choy
that are starting to sprout.  Jake loves stir fry and
Pep uses a lot of  bok choy in it so he decided to
grow some this year.  I think there are a few
rows of lettuce in here too but they're not sprouting yet.

Outside the work of cleaning the garden has started.
all the dead plants need to be taken out of the beds
and the paths raked.

The weather is great for this - sunny and a
little chilly so I don't get too hot while raking.
Jeff always helps with the raking when my arthritis
starts being a problem.  No one ever said
getting older was easy.  Thanks Jeff.

Inside the little chicken house two of my banty hens
are nesting.  The red glow in the picture is from the
warming light.  The nights are still a little too chilly and
they need the warming lights.

Outside the house Sheran and her rooster keep watch.

The yard around the little house is covered with wire due
to hawks but you can't be too careful when grandchildren
might be hatching.

The big garden is tilled and waiting until it
gets a little warmer. - I can't wait:)

Our vintage book this week is Homespun Hearth.
One of my favorite quilts in the book is
Friend's House

I can't decide whether I like it better with
the chimney or the star on the side of the house.

Anyway, our special this week is the
kit for the Clover Meadow wallhanging.

or the kit .... or both

Happy Blockheads 4 Wednesday #3

This is Kouign Amann

by Laurie Simpson.

You can go to her blog to

download the pattern by clicking here.

And I'm pretty sure she'll explain the name

of the block too.

Back at the farm we couldn't handle the

nice weather without planting something

so we started out deck garden.  Jeff will till up

the big garden between the house and the barn

soon but we just can't wait.

We take a package of potting soil and  cut out the top,
of the package.  Then we  poke holes in the package with
a stick or skewer so the water can drain and set the whole thing
on some plastic milk crates.  After we mark the rows across
we plant the seeds,
This little garden has lettuce, mini bok choy
and radishes.

Lavender and thyme get their own pots on the front porch.

Back inside it's time to work on another block of

this years Mystery Quilt "Garden Party".

We're only on the 3rd block so if you want to join in

give Tammy a call at 816-632-7632 or email

janpatekquiltsinc@gmail.com.

Now lets take a minute and go see what the
others are doing with Laurie's block
