James B. Laird - RIP

This is a photo of us getting ready to walk down the aisle on my wedding day 43 years ago.  I'm the one in the white.  :)

The very good looking gentleman beside me is my brother,  Dr. James Berkey Laird.   Our father died when I was 8 so Jim "gave me away".
Like my father, Jim was a veterinarian - both graduated from K State.
Jim was 2 years younger than I was but he left us suddenly the night of January 9th.
He has journeyed on.
My animals will really miss  him and so will I.

  10. This morning Pep said
"The world is poorer for his loss
But much richer for having known him
    And so are we."
I'm sure it's not original but it is very comforting.
    He's journeying on.
Thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers.

  18. My sympathy to you. My sibling passed years ago and I still miss her...we shared so many memories of childhood together. Treasure the memories you have of your brother and hold them near to your heart.

  19. It's funny how that even with the aches and pains of getting older I don't feel older. And Jim wasn't "older" either.
Both Pep and my parents have been dead for around 15 years but we still have an aunt and uncle alive and well. They remember "Jimmy" as do Nancy and I.
But our siblings are somehow a part of who we are - they share the same memories. And that makes their loss very hard.
I've always tried to make my quilts include the pain as well as the happy - because together they make up life.
It's so neat to have a quilting family as well as a biological family.
Again, thank all of you for being part of my life.

  20. To lose a sibling is to look the scrapbook of the heart. I know that a person who lived the life of a vet has lots of company on the other side. hugs
