Rose Urn Wallhanging Winner

We do indeed have a winner.  It turned out to be a little more difficult than I thought though.

We counted up all the comments and new subscribers - no problem.

But then how to say who won since the subscribers didn't make a comment I could quote.  And I hesitated to put someones name or email address on the blog.

So we just emailed lucky #259 and told her she won.

Last Day of Size Matters Blog Post - Almost

Wow!  We're at the end of the Moda Size Matter's Blog Hop already.

I too, have learned that quilters have big hearts. Got a wonderful care package recently after a quilter learned about my husband being out of work and his surgery to remove cancer of the kidney. It touched my heart to realize that people care, even if they don't know you...wow! She had recently dealt with the same cancer in her hubby, so knew first-hand where I was coming from.
I like your pillow and block. Those fabrics are lovely and whomever wins them is going to be so happy.

In order to do the tutorial on Stems and Leaves using the center block from Eagles and Roses, I needed to have the block  done in several different stages.  No one wants to sit and watch me stitch and stitch - that gets boring.

What I've always wondered is "what to do with the blocks afterwards".  I guess I could make 2 or 3 fullsized quilts but that's probably not going to happen :).
So I came up with this idea.  I'll have a contest and give them away on my blog.

Here's what is included to make the Rose Urn Wallhanging - the center block in progress and all of the fabrics and pattern to finish it, along with the borders and binding.  It will finish at 46" x 46".

The four corners needed applique or something 
to soften the black blob.  

My four favorite things came to mind, 
Faith, Family, Friends, and Fabric.  
My life revolves around these things and I need all of them in my life to function.  

Size Matters - Day 9 - Kansas Troubles & Aneela Hooey.

Boy - what a day.  Kelly and I took Zoie shopping for volleyball shorts, kneepads and headbands.  Luckily the school provides the tops.  How many of you have been shopping with a 13 year old girl?  I think we went through every pair of spandex shorts in the mall.  But we finally found some shorts that met her approval and the schools requirements, a couple of tops for practices, kneepads and some headbands that will work until we can find something better.  

That done, we had lunch at around 3:00 and came home.

So I want to back up a little.  

This is Linda from my Girl Gang.  Linda comes to the meeting each month, picks up her block, sits and chats for 2 hours but she never does any applique.

This month she brought a couple of quilts she's been working on.

The top on is crosstitch and is a King sized quilt.

Wow!

I thought it was a good day to post it, following Alma's blog post.

This one is a bit smaller but the embroidery is absolutely stunning.  The fabric is all French General.  We told her she could bring her embroidery from now on.  I think she just likes the fabric company.  

The Crossroads pattern for today is "Let It Snow".  They were supposed to be little snowman blocks but they grew.  

Quilts have a mind of their own sometimes.

And I just love Lori's quilting as usual.  Snowflakes in the snowmen

and squiggles in the trees.

The little quilt on special is Sunflowers and Scarecrows.

I need to take the dogs on their run and my walk so we need to get hopping.  One hop is quite a distance - Aneela Hooey from the UK - and the other just a half a state away - Lynne from Kansas Troubles.

Size Matters - Day 8 - Blackbird Designs, Cotton Way, Stephanie Ryan - AND a new tutorial

The Crossroads pattern I'm featuring today is Eagles and Roses, a 7 month BOM. 

 Altogether the quilt is 98" x 98" and will probably be my Christmas quilt this year (if it's not out on a trunk show).

The center block is also the subject of 

 another tutorial since

 I've heard from a few of you that a 34" center block might be somewhat challenging. 

It will also cover a basic that we haven't touched on so far "Stems and Leaves".

Meanwhile we have some hopping to do.  Let's see what Barb and Alma of Blackbird Designs are up to.  I think Alma was making a lot of the blocks in the 6" size.  Then on to Bonnie of Cotton Way (hopefully she hasn't had any more bears in her garage)  and Stephanie Ryan, loved her roses as symbolic of remembering those lost on 9-11.  Beautiful roses and a beautiful thought.

Today is Girl Gang Day at Jan Patek Quilts.  The quilt we're making this year is the Pine Tree Ridge BOM out of the Fellowship line.

So today it's straightening the loft, 

going to the salon to get my hair done (I do quilts - not hair)

and getting the cake made.

Size Matters - Day 6 - Kathy Schmitz, Minick & Simpson, Primitive Gatherings

We are moving right along with this Blog Hop - 6 days already.

And I can't wait to see what these guys are giving away.  I'll bet I can't enter though - darn.

The Crossroads pattern I'm showcasing today is Snowbirds and StarTrees - another one of my favorite.

This is simply one of my very favorite fabric lines.  But then again, they always are.  Someone asked Linda once what her favorite quilt was.  "The one I'm working on - always" was what she replied.  She's a pretty smart lady, she is.

And the quilt kit on special today is "Autumn Kisses and Hugs"

The quilt is made of a combination of my fabrics and a line by Kathy Schmitz so I thought it was an appropriate choice for today.

Sometimes the picture on the pattern gets the colors right but sometimes it doesn't.  Color printing is a very mysterious thing to me.

I really like the fabrics in this quilt so I brought it down to the house and took some pictures that showed the fabric colors more accurately.

I found the "X" block at an antique booth at Festival in Rosemont one year.  I hadn't ever seen the block before but really had fun with the X's and O's theme.

I made Autumn Kisses and Hugs, Winter Hugs & Kisses and Garden Kisses and Hugs.

And once again, Lori's quilting just makes the quilt.

And speaking of Kathy Schmitz, lets hop on over and see what she's been doing.  She's at a Buggy Barn Retreat with no internet reception but things are preset to post -  God willing and the creek don't rise.  Good luck Kathy.

Size Matters - Day 5 - Kate Spain, Me & My Sister

And That's what happens when you don't read things all the way through.  Yesterday morning I got an "error" message when I was posting.  I thought it just hadn't saved the top part so I typed it again, but later I saw that it didn't save the bottom of the post either.

Here's what didn't post until late yesterday afternoon.

What it should have said was...........

"Now let hop on over and see what Deb and Barbara and V& Co. are up to.  Something interesting I'm sure.....and lucrative if you like fabric.:).  Just love the Moda give-aways."  

  Sorry ladies...... the computer ate my homework. 

Now for today - which will go a little more smoothly, I hope.

This is Cityscape, one of my favorite quilts this year.  (Of course, I kind of say that about them all :).)

Our youngest son Max lives in midtown Kansas City, Missouri - the Westport district - with his fiance Valerie and two of his sons Quinn & Cullen.  Westport is kind of the "arts" district of Kansas City and has lots of interesting shops and places to eat.

The sidewalks are lined with square areas of red mulch and round black metal grates with trees growing out of the center of them.  Stars are much easier than trees.  

And I'm not a botanist so I don't know what kind of trees they are but there are these round balls growing on them that have spikes all over them.  They're really neat looking.  I always pick some up to scatter on the farm but so far none have grown here.  Ah well.

Anyway, I do like the quilt and Lori did an awesome job of quilting it as usual.

And it's just the right size for their beds.  I'd say I'll have to make another one

but probably not until they're older.  Right now they'd probably rather have a Halo or Pokemon quilt.

That's not happening soon, believe me, especially Halo.  Maybe dinosaurs though.

It's a good thing he doesn't read my blog or grandma might be in trouble. :)

Here he is this summer doing his Blue's Brothers imitation.  Isn't he great?  Don't I sound like a grandma?  My babies are growing up.
