Block 24

Be My Neighbor
by Stacy lest Hsu

You can go to her blog to download
the pattern by clicking here.

I just love her block and would love to
make a gazillion little houses
but life got in the way.

Last Friday raccoons got into
our chicken houses.
Through a series of miscommunications
Jeff thought we were shutting up the
houses and we thought he was.

We lost almost all of our chickens
My big Lavender Orpington rooster and his hen
made it through, 1 Americauna hen and 1 banty hen.

We lost all of the others.
The only good thing about it was
the day that it happened.  That night the Amish in
Jamesport were having their monthly
small animal auction.

Nancy and I hopped into the van, drove to Jamesport

We got quite a few egg layers, 2 sets of Silkies and some
beautiful gold chickens that I'm going to have to
research to find out what they are.
We also bought these 2 turkey babies for Zoie

We live trapped the big boar raccoon and his sow and
called our conservation officer.

Two babies (or kits) came and hung out
with their parents

until the agent
could coral them and take them and their parents
over to Wallace State Park to be Let loose
in the woods.
Don't let their cuteness take you in.  They'll
grow up to be as destructive as all the adults.
(I had to keep telling myself that!)

And all of this was after cleaning out
3 houses, filling them with clean straw
 & rounding up feedersand waterers.

Ships, Stars & Whales is our featured
quilt from the vintage book Oceans Aweigh.

My nephew Jewell had discovered my Father-in-Law's
recipe for podjarka which is printed in the book
and I promised to email him a copy.

That should do it.

Now lets go see what the others have done with
Stacy's block.

Have a good week ladies.

Blockheads - Block 23

Block 23

Back at the farm everything's growing.
This is the rosemary and basil

And here is was last week.

I do have a few flowers too.

As well as a very sleepy cat named Dueces.
Actually he's Pep's cat.
My cats are just overgrown kittens
and still tear around the house full speed ahead.

One of my favorite quilts from our vintage
book for the month (Oceans Aweigh) is
Save the Whales.
I think whales are awesome.  After the last
Market we had in Portland my sister Nancy and I
went down the coast to visit our Uncle Fred
and Aunt Grace in California.
We had booked a session to go out and see
Whales but it was canceled because this ocean
was too choppy so I'll have to be content with
my quilt.   My son Max did a woodcut of the
whale and I used it in the quilt.

Now lets go see what the others have done with
Vanessa's block.

Blockheads 3, Block 22

Hen & Chicks
by Laurie Simpson.

You can go to her blog to download
the pattern by clicking here.

Back in the garden and on the deck
the veggies are growing.  We had a
nice rain last night and they loved it.

some basil seeds got in with the rosemary
and seem to like it there.

Our Vintage book this month is
which Oceans Aweigh which
was dedicated to my
father-in -law Byron Patek.

Byron was a Commander in the Navy during
WWII and earned a bronze star for
sweeping mines during a typhoon.

I thought since Father's Day is in June that it was
a good book to share this month.

Now lets go see what the others have done with
Laurie's block.

And while you're at it, you can check out what they did with
Lissa's block last week since I forgot to post the links Friday.

Have a good week ladies.

Back in Missouri we've been having
our normal weather for Memorial Day -
chilly and rainy......Nancy and I did
make it to two of the cemeteries to decorate the
graves nevertheless. Flowers and Flags
were the order of the day.

At home Jeff braved the weather and planted
rows of peas, carrots, beans, radishes and corn.
We'll eat well this summer.

The lettuce and Swiss chard on the deck
are doing quite well too.

As are the tomatoes.  The great big one is a
Goliath and I must confess he was pretty
big when I bought him.  BLT's should be
plentiful this summer.

In this plantar are a Rutgers (great for canning)
and an orange cherry tomato for salads, etc.

My herbs have gone crazy.  Pep makes a roast chicken
dish that uses a lemon, rosemary and thyme - we should
get to eat it all summer too.

Even the Basil seeds have gone bonkers so Pep can
make his awesome mint/basil pesto for our pork chops.
We ran out of the pesto about March and the rest of
the spring we had to do without.

It will take a minute for the basil to get big
enough so lets go see what the others have done with
Lisa's block.

See you next week and
Stay Safe.

Block #19

Compass Point

Its finally Spring in Missouri and
Grandma's iris are in full bloom.

There are beds of them scattered
through the garden -
"Audra'a Iris Garden".

And in keeping with living in the country
we have not only flowers (food for the
eyes and the soul), but also vegetables.
Our friend Jeff doesn't have room for a
large garden at home so we trade space
for veggies.
He's got the garden tilled and prepped
for planting.

And while Jeff's garden grows veggies to can and freeze,
we plant smaller gardens on the deck.
These are bags of potting soil with holes
poked in the bottom sitting on milk
crates.  One is planted with lettuce and
one with Swiss Chard (Pep's favorite0

And, of course we can't survive without herbs,
Rosemary, thyme, oregano and basil.
I planted the basil from seeds and it's not up yet
but any day now!!!!
I just love Spring.

And while we're waiting for the basil to come up,
lets go see what the others have done with
Brigette's block.

See you next week and
Stay Safe.

Block 18 - Bird & Urn

Block # 18

Bird & Urn
by Jan Patek

I realize that the designer's patterns
said Block  # 19
but it was really
Block # 18.

The two little black circles at
the top of the block are
magnets that are holding the block in
place so it can get it's picture taken.

And I finally figured out how to
hold the camera so the block
actually looks square- Yay Me!!!!
