Getting ready for April and Moda Blockheads Block #4 with instructions

By Me :)

But first.....
April is almost here and thank heavens we've had a few "April Showers".
To get us all in the mood for April we've put our Parasol Princess kit on sale for 25% off.
Stitching on it's cheery fabrics will drive away any "blahs" the showers might bring.

While we're talking about stitching I should stop and talk about thread - that's our subject for this week.  I mainly use a 60 weight thread to appliqué with - of course matching the color of the thread to the appliqué, not the background.

Here's the little Table Stand Quilt I posted last week
(You can get either kit by clicking here)

And look what hatched this week ---
6 brand new baby Bantys.

Now if I can just figure out how to train them to pull a cart :)
Probably not....

The
Moda Blockhead block
for week #4 is a 6" Beeskep Block
and you can download the corrected pattern with instructions by clicking here.

For those of you who aren't quite sure what a "beeskep" is, this one is an
English Straw Bee Skep.  For centuries, beekeepers used "skeps" (domed baskets), to house their hives.

Here are two that live in my garden.
Beeskeps show up in my quilts frequently so, of course, I had to have a 6" one.

Now lets check out what the other designers have done with my block by going to their blogs

Have a great week ladies and meet me back here next Wednesday when we'll be seeing the block for Week #5 of the Moda Blockheads BOW.

Sorry ladies but we forgot to include page #2 (the one with the directions) of the beeskep block.
I could post  the original pdf here so you can read it but don't know how to make is available for download.  I just sent it to Moda again and if you go to  http://unitednotions.com/blockheads_04_beeskep.pdf  it will be there.
We'll get all of these kinks worked out by the end, we promise :)

And for those of you who want some tips on appliqué, I have done a whole series of You Tube tutorials that you can watch at
https://youtube.com/user/janpatekquilts.
If you're really new to appliqué start with the "Basics" series.

Just copy the address and put it in your browser.

Have fun ladies, there's a whole new world to be explored out there.

Week #2 of Moda Blockheads BOW -

This is my Lilac Hill quilt made of the Moda fabric line of the same name.
Some very nice ladies have asked me to please do a tutorial on the quilt to help them along.

There is, however, a problem with that.
I don't have any of the fabric left.

My next fabric line is called Sycamore - it will be showing at Spring Market and ship next Fall.  I love it
AND

the fabric line after that - the one that will show at Fall Market and ship the following Spring is called "Lilac Ridge".

So....... all of this is leading up to the fact that the colors will be somewhat similar to Lilac Hill and I have already planned on doing a wallhanging using the house block.
You'll have to wait until I get the fabric but I will do a tutorial for you.
Thanks for asking.
And by the way, the pattern is on sale all month.

Now for

Aunt Dinah by Betsy Chutchian

I used fabrics from her line Racheal Remembered to make the block.

You can download the pattern by clicking here.

Be sure to check out what the other designers have done with her block by going to their blogs

Have a great week ladies and meet me back here next Wednesday for Week #3 of the Moda Blockheads BOW.

Well..... At long last I am officially a Blockhead!

But Not Just any Old Blockhead
I'm a Moda Blockhead.

And you can be one too by joining Lynne, Betsy, Jo, Lisa, Carrie and me
as we make forty-eight 6" blocks.

We've been waiting for this for weeks so come Quilt Along with us and lets get started.

The 1st block is Whirligig by Lynne Hagmeier of Kansas Troubles and I chose fabric from Lynne's Thistle Farms to have it made.
(I'm not known for my piecing so my friend Amy Gertz has joined me in some of the sewing.)
To download the pattern and instructions for the block click here.

And I know this isn't a Blog Hop but you will want to hop (or stroll) over to the other ladies blogs and see what they have done with Lynne's block.

On a very sad note, we lost our Spike a little over a month ago.
He was my sweetheart and he loved my quilts.
Whenever we changed the big quilt that hangs in the foyer, we had to lay it on the floor to attach it to the board it hung on and Spike was sure to run over to sit down.

And he didn't like being told to get off of it either.......
but he always did.

Here he is when we first got him.........

And here is Elizabeth - our new puppy

I could only stand about 2 weeks without a bulldog.
Luckily we found a breeder only about 3 hours away.
She is truly "Queen of the Realm" as Pep says.

Be sure to come back next Wednesday to see and get our next block - Aunt Dinah by Betsy!

And the timer was set for 7:00 but apparently it didn't go up.  Good thing I checked.  Aaargh!

Meantime Dobby and Elizabeth and I need to go feed the wild birds and let the chickens out.  Then  I'll sit and stitch for a bit while they play before it's back to work.  We still have a few Fabric Packs to get out and I have quilts to design. :)

Life is good ----especially for Blockheads.
