Blockheads 3, Block #7

ZEST
by Lissa Alexander
You can go to her blog
to download the pattern
by clicking here.

I got last year's Mystery Quilt
back from Lori yesterday and
am sewing down the binding.
I also noticed that when I
assembled the blocks I
sewed the 5 pointed star in
upside down.
Aaargh!

Maybe I'm reverting to my Mennonite
roots and made a simple mistake
because only God is perfect.
Well, I certainly am not.  Usually however,
my mistakes are piecing mistakes, not
applique.

This is Muffin Kitty.  He's our new
Barn cat and is a great mouser.
He just showed up in the barn one day
and made himself at home.
Our vet always chuckles when I say
"barn cat".  He has his own room in the
barn with a heated bed and water bowl, has
dry food on demand and wet food twice a
day.  Not exactly your normal outside cat!!!
And believe me he loves being inside the
barn and getting scritched.  It's turned pretty
cold out there today.

Well, that's enough chit chat for now.
Lets go see what the other
ladies have done with Lissa's block.

See you next week.

Blockheads 3, Block 6

Magic
by Lisa Bongean

As if you couldn't tell
who designed it by
looking at all of the
small triangle squares.
They're one of Lisa's trademarks.
You can go to her blog to
download the pattern by clicking here.

This is the 1st block in the 2020
Mystery Quilt "Suzanne's Snowmen".
To join the fun,  email Tammy at
janpatekquiltsinc@gmail.com.
tell her you want in and she'll
give you all the details.

And these guys are my Lavender Orpington
chickens.  First lavender fabric, then
lavender chickens....What's next?

They really are beautiful.  Big Daddy, my head
rooster is in the lead with his 2 hens behind and
then the 2nd rooster.
My only disappointment is that they lay
brown eggs like my Buff Orpingtons.
My Aracaunas lay blue eggs I would
have loved to have some lavender eggs too.

But life goes on - even without lavender eggs.

Meanwhile
lets go see what the other
ladies have done with Lisa's block.

See you next week.

Mystery Quilt Club

There's always a new Mystery lurking and you're sure to want to be in on the fun!

Throughout the year, our club members receive, sight unseen, a monthly quilt block. At the end of the year you have a great quilt. The full Mystery is yet to be revealed but with one block you just know the rest will create a wonderful quilt. To make sure that you never miss out on the fun, we send you blocks each year unless you ask us to stop.

The charge for each block is 30.50,which includes the pattern, fabric and shipping and handling. The only time that changes will be when we send the borders and sashing. That is the final block and it will be slightly more than the regular blocks. The 1st block goes out in February, so give us a call at 816-632-7632 and join the Mystery Quilt club (I'll show you a color picture of the 1st block next Blockheads Wednesday so be sure to come back then).

Meanwhile lets go see what the other

ladies have done with Brigette's block.

See you next week.

Blockheads 3 - Block #4

My Purple Birdhouse

To download the pattern
I think the instructions on the pattern
are pretty good but for those of you
who haven't done a lot of appliqué
I'll give you links to a few
of my YouTube tutorials.

For the basics of Freezer Paper Applique
-Jan Patek style- click here.
For points on sewing houses together (large ones as
well as birdhouses) click here.
If you want help with circles like the birdhouse hole which
can be really hard, click here.
Points can be tricky - stars, birds beaks and leaf points.
If you want a little help with points click here.

All of those should get you off to a good start
and feel free to use all of them whenever you need to.

I've always liked purple but
lately I've come to love it.

I used it extensively in my
 50th Anniversary Quilt (93" x 99")
that Tammy Vanderschmidt of Moda
turned into this awesome kit.
You can buy it by clicking here
or put it in layaway
by emailing our Tammie at
janpatekquiltsinc@gmail.com

Our latest Tablestand Quilt
is Cozy Cabin
(You can get the kit or the
pattern by clicking here)

It doesn't have much purple
but purple snow seemed to
be stretching my love of purple
a bit far, even for me.
And my little snow guy seems
to be content with green trees so
I let him keep them.

Speaking of Anniversary quilts
this is the quilt I made for our 25th
anniversary.  It was published in a book
called Together Again by Linda
Brannock and I which is now out
of print.  Apparently there are a few
copies for sale on Ebay for around $900.
Since Humble Quilts is doing a QAL
with the quilt, I've turned it
into a pattern.  It's a huge pattern and quite
a few of the border figures are large
enough that I had to have them specially
copied and printed.  We've started the process
and you can buy one now by clicking here.
They probably will ship at the end of the week.

Meanwhile lets go see what the other
ladies have done with my block.

See you next week and lets hope for some warmer days.

And lets keep the snow away for the parade
tomorrow for our Super Bowl Kansas City Chiefs

Go Chiefs!!
