This time I got an easy one - thanks Lissa.
We're supposed to talk about why size matters and .....
the size of your heart always matters.
Nuff said. :)
These are 6" (finished) hearts and 6" (finished) squares making up a 9-patch heart block.
Heart 9-Patch Pillow
I was torn between making the block into a small wallhanging or a pillow. Obviously, I chose the pillow. I love to change the quilts and pillows on my couch. Hearts don't just need to be around on Valentine's Day - they're important all year. To download the instructions to make the pillow, click here.
If you'd like a kit to make the pillow we have a few in the store. Just click here.
The little quilt on special today is "The Witch is In". It's getting close to Halloween so it's pretty appropriate but as I've always said, "This isn't a Halloween quilt, it's a statement quilt." :)
I do occasionally feel (and maybe act) like one - but not very often, I hope. It's a really good quilt to hang on the door on one of those days. :)
It's also one of the quilts I used in my new tutorial on how to applique circles, all sizes of circles - big ones like the moon and small ones like her eyes. If you'd like to learn more about appliqueing circles or just want to watch the tutorial for the heck of it, click here. If you like the tutorials, please do subscribe.
And speaking of tutorials, we will also have a tutorial Friday - the lucky 13th - on tips for appliqueing the center block from our Crossroads quilt "Eagles and Roses". Be sure and come back because we'll also have an awesome Give-Away that goes with it.
And if you're going to be anywhere close to Cameron tomorrow (the 7th), I'll be showing all of my Crossroad quilts at Crossroads Quilt Shop in Cameron around 9:30. Please come, I'd love to meet you.
Ok - now for the important part - giving things away today..
We've got a Layer Cake, Charm Bundle, Mini Charm and Dessert Roll - Crossroads precuts.
Make a comment, any comment - maybe about things that have to do with the size of someone's heart.
But if you don't have a thought about that, just make a comment.
We'll have a drawing and announce the winner of the precuts on the 16th.
For right now we have to go see what Sandy and Pat are up too. I can't wait.
I agree hearts are great all year long. Thank you for the chance to win Crossroads.ReplyDelete
Mmmmm.... my heart would be soooooo HAPPY if I win some Crossroads precuts! ;-)ReplyDelete

"Our days are happier when we give people a bit of our heart rather than a piece of our mind". -unknownReplyDelete
Got this quote from a blog from yesterday's blog hop and it is certainly fitting for your block!
My little grandson was born with a few holes in his heart, now they are fixed and I think he has the biggest heart in the world.ReplyDelete

It is amazing and humbling to browse the internet, visit LQS, or guilds and see the unselfish sharing that goes on in the quilting community. Everything from ideas, free patterns, tutorials, quilts for someone who lost a dear loved one, quilts for our soldiers, and pillowcases for sick children and many other examples ~ yes, Quilters have Huge hearts.ReplyDelete

Size matters in football. If the other team is huge the little guys might get creamed.ReplyDelete
In my opinion it's the same in quiliting, when a fabric pattern is huge, the little dainty (my fav's) seem to get creamed.
Have a great day ladies!
Lovely fabric line. Love the heart of Moda for all the great givaways during this blog hop!ReplyDelete
Thank you for the chance to win. The hearts are really cute. love the appliqué.ReplyDelete
Love the new Crossroads fabric. I've also watched your videos for the applique and they have very helpful. One of these days I'll slow down enough to get the hand of it!ReplyDelete

like to use hearts all year round also. I made a wall hanging for Valentine's day using this block but your post has reminded me that the bookkeeper at our shop said she loves anything with hearts and no one ever gives her anything with them. I am going to take the time in the next couple of weeks and make her a small wall hanging with hearts.ReplyDelete
Love your heart patterns. I've been wanting to make a scrappy heart quilt & this would be a great pattern for one. Thanks.ReplyDelete

Yes, the size of one's heart does matter! It is so important to have a kind and generous heart. Since entering the quilting world about two years ago, I have found quilters to have very large hearts!!ReplyDelete
Since my DH puts up with fabric and quilting projects all over our house, I gotta give him credit for a big heart. He rarely complains about the mess,ReplyDelete

I have 4 Grands and I am never prepared for how much my heart can swell with the love I feel for these short people!ReplyDelete
I loved the tutorial for applique, Jan. And I love the fabrics in Crossroads. The video of Schoolhouse at Market was fun to watch and I learned a bit of history of Cameron, MO. St. Louis is my hometown. Thanks for the chance to win some of your new fabric line! firstname.lastname@example.orgReplyDelete
The size of the heart matters, but what is in your heart is of equal importance. May all our hearts be bulging with love!ReplyDelete
Love your work, jan!ReplyDelete
I'd love to win that gorgeous fabric. Primitives are getting hard to find near where I live. And I enjoy watching your tutorials!ReplyDelete
Love your designs, Jan. Size is important, and the size of quilters' hearts is huge! Some of the very best people I know.ReplyDelete
That fabric is absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for the opportunity to win.ReplyDelete
Always love your stuff!ReplyDelete
Your fabric is very pretty and thank you for sharing the pillow!ReplyDelete
Have a wonderful weekend,
Kindness and generosity I believe are related to the sizeReplyDelete
of one's heart, and as quilters their's are xxxl. Thanks
for sharing the pattern and for the chance to win.
I have found that quilters have big hearts. I've made more new friends through a shared quilting hobby than any other activity.ReplyDelete
What a sweet design for a pilla or wall hanging! Yes having a big heart is wonderful but filling it with only love and goodness is just as important. A lesson my sweet Mama thought me! She always said let go of the bad and keep only the good! Mama was my 'heart hero'! That fabric is beautiful!ReplyDelete
I think the size of a quilters heart is amazing when sharing their love and talents when sharing their work with others. Nothing makes me happier than thinking of someone special while planning and making a quilt for them.ReplyDelete
Your pillow turned out lovely! Thank you for sharing the pattern. I would agree with you that the size of the heart is what matters most. Especially filled with love.ReplyDelete
The fabrics are gorgeous! Thank you for the sweet giveaway! I'm a subscriber to your videos and have really enjoyed them. Thank you!
Quilters have big hearts..Look at how many quilts they make and give away to charities and friends and families. Love your blocks, thank you for sharing.ReplyDelete
Love your fabrics in your give away. Pick me! Size only matters in the size of your heart.ReplyDelete
I am always drawn to quilts with hearts on them, I just love them. Thanks for a chance to win in the giveaway.ReplyDelete
Love hearts!!! Used to have my kitchen decorated with them:)ReplyDelete
I too, have learned that quilters have big hearts. Got a wonderful care package recently after a quilter learned about my husband being out of work and his surgery to remove cancer of the kidney. It touched my heart to realize that people care, even if they don't know you...wow! She had recently dealt with the same cancer in her hubby, so knew first-hand where I was coming from.ReplyDelete
I like your pillow and block. Those fabrics are lovely and whomever wins them is going to be so happy.
When someone talks about the size of one's heart I always thing of the Grinch ;o) How he was able to have his heart grow because of the love of others. I have know a few Grinch's...not wanting to talk to others, always thinking of themselves. The can change with random acts of kindness that they don't expect!ReplyDelete
The online quilting community is so generous and big-hearted. On almost a daily basis I see quilters sharing tips and patterns, donating quilts and other sewn objects and generally helping others. It is inspiring!ReplyDelete
I thought about The Grinch, too, and how his heart grew when he learned to love others. Your pillow is cute, thank you for the instructions.ReplyDelete
I think the size of one's heart is what matters the most too. People like yourself, opening up their lives and loves to strangers in an attempt to close the gap that tends to separate us all. With you sharing your talents and creativity, it means so much in that it inspires people like myself to want to do better and to just do! I really appreciate the opportunity to see your talents and creativity in motion and I look forward to reading your blog in the future - thank you so much! Happy Quilting!ReplyDelete
I think the Crossroads collection is just beautiful--my colors! Would love to win it!ReplyDelete
The Crossroads fabric is stunning and would make a beautiful quilt!ReplyDelete
The size of your heart is the most important, but, one thing in which the size does matter is when you have hit two or three or more quilt stores looking for more of a certain fabric to finish your quilt, you finally find it, and it is a few inches short of what you need, and this is the last store in your 50 mile area that has it. You could order more online, but you only need a few more inches and they want to charge you $10 shipping on a half yard or less of fabric! Arrrh!ReplyDelete
My mom has the biggest heart I know and unfortunately at this time it's not been working so well. But heart does matter.ReplyDelete
I think quilters all have very big hearts. Most are very willing to share information and tips, and have great give aways :) thanks for the chance.ReplyDelete
I love Crossroads. About size of heart...so deceptive...you can have this huge burley, tough-skinned guy who looks a little intimidating with a heart of gold and as big as NYC. Or you have this tiny 6-yr old boy, a 6-yr old heart that raises thousands of dollars for children cancer patients. How is that possible? I try to not judge someone's outer façade but to give them the benefit of the doubt. For they may have a generous heart that will be called upon someday. Love, Mary email@example.com
I agree with BarefootT all quilters have big hearts.....great giveaway...and I love your heart pillow....ReplyDelete
We do seem to be all big hearted, I also agree. I've never met a quilter who wasn't! Love your designs and thank you for sharing.ReplyDelete
I think quilters are very generous people by nature so we must be big hearted.ReplyDelete
I am always amazed at the size of the hearts of quilters and bloggers - they are so quick to spread the word and participate in block/quilts when there has been a need due to disaster or illness or special needs.ReplyDelete
Quilters are amazingly generous people. Every time there's a disaster or other need, large or small, i see a call go out for quilts. Maybe a person can only give a small quilt, but it can help in a BIG way. I think if every person focused on helping out in some small way, we could change the world in a BIG way.ReplyDelete
My mother has one of the biggest hearts I've ever known. She is always giving to others and never wants or expects anything in return. Thank you for sharing! anglanouette at gmail dot comReplyDelete
I think all the quilters I know have big hearts. They are always giving to people in many ways.ReplyDelete
Most of my quilting and teaching friends have generous hearts.ReplyDelete
A friend that sends flowers when I'm having a bad day. Thanks for the chance.ReplyDelete
I agree. Quilters as a rule have big hearts. It's a wonderful thing.ReplyDelete
I agree - It's the size of the heart!ReplyDelete

I think so too, it is the size of your heart that matters and I think mine grows as I quilt for family and friends.ReplyDelete
Another great line of fabric that it would be great to win some precuts of.ReplyDelete
Quilting for me is all about the heart. All but one of the quilts I have made have been for people I love.ReplyDelete
Love the name of this fabric line. I remember being amazed that the generous nature (big heart) of quilt teachers when I was a beginning quilter. They were inspirational. I wanted to be just like them:) Have an awesome weekend!ReplyDelete

Beautiful fabrics! The heart has the capability to expand and never become full. It always has room for more love and caring..ReplyDelete
Love your fabrics, and that pillow is just darling! All this talk of hearts and sizes makes me think of my favorite Christmas character, the Grinch, whose "small heart grew three sizes that day". Your fabric would be great in some Christmas gifts!ReplyDelete
I love those fabrics. Regarding the size of someone's heart I think of the line from the Grinch where "his heart grew three sizes that day..." it's so sweet.ReplyDelete
Thank you for your big heart and generous giveaway!ReplyDelete
Love your fabrics. Quilters have big hearts and generous with one another. Thanks. LanaReplyDelete
Crossroads line is beautiful. thanks for opportunity! Love the witch wallhanging!!!!!ReplyDelete
love the fabrics. I know one thing, quilters have big hearts. I am in a guild and we make lots of charity quilts. thanks for the giveaway.ReplyDelete

Hearts make great quilts, or pillows. The heart is a muscle - so it grows and becomes stronger with exercise. We'd all do well to remember that.ReplyDelete
Oh how special! You are so right, hearts should be out all year round! I love your "witch" , she is hillarioussly funny....love love love it! Thanks for the chance!ReplyDelete
My son has the biggest heart of anyone I know. He has had to help take care of my since he was 12 & now that he lives away from home, he still manages to let me know how much he loves me & does all he can for me. He even planned a surprise birthday party for me last weekend. Love my son. Gorgeous fabric!ReplyDelete
My daughter has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. She is one of the most giving, patient Mom and wife. I am proud to call her my daughter.ReplyDelete
My sweet 5 yr old grandson is the tenderheart in our family.ReplyDelete

I love the heart pillow. I've always liked anything made with hearts. My daughter is an art teacher to 600 first and second graders and she has the biggest heart of anyone I know. Those kids are lucky to have her for a teacher.ReplyDelete
I always think first of what I can make for those that I love. So I sew from the heart.ReplyDelete
